I caught up with Rob Machado and got a sneak peak at two of his upcoming boards – a performance twinzer and a new mid length surfboard…
I recently caught up with Rob Machado this year whilst he was shaping some custom boards in Australia, and whilst we were filming he spilled the beans on not one, but two upcoming Rob Machado surfboards that will be launching soon!
Both boards bring something unique to the table, offering versatility, performance, and fun for surfers of all levels.
So to decide if you’ll be making room in the quiver for them, here’s my chat with Rob about his upcoming board releases….
The Midas: A High-Performance Return
The Midas is making a comeback after its original release in 2017, with a few tweaks to make it even better.
Designed for versatility, this performance shortboard performs across various wave conditions, from smaller days to overhead surf. Rob has pulled in the nose and tail, removed the channel, and incorporated a twinzer fin setup with the option to experiment with a trailer fin for added customisation.
Whether you’re drawing smooth lines in smaller waves or pushing it in larger surf, the Midas promises to be heaps of fun!
Key Features:
- Tail Design: Refined tail template for smoother turns
- Nose: Narrower nose than previous versions and compared with the Groove
- Fin Setup: Twinzer with trailer fin box so you can play with fin setups
- Wave Range: Versatile all-around board for small to overhead surf
- Release Date: Early 2026
The Long Cado: A Mid Length Everyone Will Love
The Long Cado is an extended version of Rob’s popular small wave surfboard, the Machadocado. Designed to be versatile in a range of conditions, but excelling in smaller, grovelly surf, this board is perfect for everyone. Rob has been testing it with a thruster setup, but the board can also be ridden as a quad or single fin.
The bottom features a unique design that provides speed and control, making the Long Cado a fun and adaptable board for surfers of all skill levels.
Key Features:
- Length: Available in 6’9” and upwards
- Outline: Clean and simple
- Fin Setup: Potential for thruster, quad, or single fin
- Wave Range: Ideal for everything from knee-high to overhead surf
- Family-Friendly: Suitable for all skill levels, including kids and beginners
