Cinnamon Ellaidhoo – The Resort

scuba diving the maldives cinnamon ellaidhoo (1 of 1)As far as Maldives resorts go I’d place Cinnamon Ellaidhoo as a mig range resort – not as upmarket and pricey as spots like Anantara, but certainly a huge step above the local island guesthouses and hotels…after all it is a private island resort!

For those who want to enjoy paradise, stay at a resort and enjoy some serious time in the big blue Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon is the perfect spot to head.

Situated a 90 minute speedboat or 25min seaplane transfer from Male this mid rang Maldives resort is surrounded by tropical waters and palm tree fringed beaches – everything you’d expect from your trip to the Maldives!

For those being a bit more budget conscious the Garden Villas are comfortable and great value for money, but if you want to go all out you can also opt to stay in their recently refurbished overwater bungalows.

A picturesque walk along the boardwalk from the main island these offer stunning views, private balconies and are the perfect place to retreat after a hard day underwater…which is one of the main draws of Ellaidhoo.

The Scuba Diving

Cinnamon Ellaidhoo is surrounded by numerous dive sites, including heaps of marine parks.

Spots like Fishhead and even the Ellaidhoo house reef are teeming with schools of fish, hunting trevally, rays and best of all – sharks!

Yup you’ll be treated to some amazing encounters by these apex predators – with White Tips and Grey Reefs cruising just feet in front of you.

It’s an experience you wont forget in a hurry and even if you’re just travelling with your trusty GoPro you’ll still capture some incredible underwater footage here.

The Ellaidhoo house reef is literally a stones throw from the accommodation and is pretty epic – with a wide range of marine life – making it an awesome first dive for those learn to scuba dive here or doing an Intro Dive, both of which are bookable in advance or when you arrive at the island.

To get the best out of the scuba diving here though I’d suggest already being (or completing) your Advanced Open Water as the deeper dive sites offer some great diving.

But enough chat about scuba diving the Maldives at Ellaidhoo…I know my video edit will convince you to put it on the bucket list…!
